April 7, 2014
The Bennington Township regular board meeting was called to order by
Supervisor Lee Ash on April 7, 2014, 7:00pm at the Township Hall.
Present: Jim Forsythe, Cindy Garber, Lee Ash, Donna
Ash.
Not Present: Nancy Zdunic
Forsythe moved to approve the agenda as printed.
Second by L. Ash. Motion carried.
Forsythe moved to approve the minutes for March 3,
2014 regular board meeting as printed. Second by Garber.
All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Forsythe moved to approve the minutes for the March
26, 2014 special board meeting as printed. Second by L. Ash. All board
members present in favor. Motion carried.
L. Ash moved to approve the Treasurer’s report as
presented. Second by Forsythe. All board members present in favor.
Motion carried.
Garber moved to pay bills as presented in the amount
of $18,292.68. Second by L. Ash. All board members present in favor.
Motion carried.
Public Comment:
John Hurd- Requested a copy of the letter from
M.A.G.N.E.T.
Frank Gregory- Questioned what the special meeting on
March 26 was for and what bills were paid as that meeting. Questioned if
the Township Officials were bonded. Questioned where the maps in the
hall were from because they were wrinkling and needed to be fixed.
Mentioned that there were shingles coming off the roof. All of his
questioned were addressed by the board.
Fred Farkas- Mentioned that Larry Johnson spoke at the
Annual Meeting about having a Township wide garbage pickup and wanted to
know if the board was going to address this and indicated that he
thought it was a good idea to help save the roads, for aesthetics and
recycling.
Drain
Commissioner Tony Newman – Addressed the board of a concern
regarding the Hardy & Jennings Drains. The County would like the
Township to consider a resolution and a petition to combine the two
drains together.

Plan Comm-
D. Ash- The County is in the process of updating their land use plan.
Roads- L.
Ash- Reviewed the road contracts from
form the County. Forsythe moved to accept
the 2014 road improvement contracts from the Shiawassee Road Commission
as follows: Crack Seal Morrice Rd. from Hibbard Rd. to Miller Rd. -
$33,000.00, Gravel Garrison Rd. from Ruess Rd. to M-52 - $9,500.00, Chip
seal Bennington Hill Subdivision - $40,0000, Fog Seal Bennington Hill
Subdivision - $9,000.00, Fog Line painting of 77.42 miles - $15,510.00,
Mineral well brine 1st application- $7,257.25, Mineral well
brine 2nd application - $3,588.75. Second by Garber. All
board members present in favor. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:
Lawn Mower Bids-
Three bids were received for purchase of the Township lawnmower. The
bids were from Jordan Porter- $4,750.00, Ken Gross - $4,200.00, and
Randy Brimley - $4,700.00. Forsythe moved to sell the Township lawn
mower to the highest bidder Jordan Porter for $4,750.00. Second by L.
Ash. All board members in favor. Motion carried.
Ballot Proposal
Approval- Forsythe moved to accept the Ballot Proposal wording
received from
form Attorney Lynn Bowne for the SATA
millage request and the Fire Millage request
as at printed.
Second by L. Ash. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
New Business:
Plan Comm
Appointment- Garber moved to concur with the planning Commission
recommendation and reappoint Russell Thomas and Bernie Scollon to the
Township Planning Commission for a term of three years expiring April 1,
2017. Second by L. Ash. All board members present in favor. Motion
carried.
Property
Purchase- L. Ash moved to allow the Township Attorney to move
forward to the property purchase by enlisting the help of a fellow
attorney to file for the property to be removed from the mortgage at a
cost not to exceed $1,000.00 without additional approval. Second by D.
Ash. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Junk Day-
Garber moved to hold the annual Township Junk Day on Saturday, May 3,
2014 from 8:00am to 12:00noon at a cost of $750.00 for the first truck
and $500.00 for the second truck provided by Premier. Second by L. Ash.
All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Township Wide
Garbage Service- The Township Board will look into options of a
Township wide garbage service.
Waste
Management Cancellation- The Waste Management contract is up for
renewal. The board would like to look into options for refuse service at
the hall, therefore a letter of cancellation will be sent to Waste
Management.
Township Hall
Brush Removal- There is a need to hire a chipper at the Township
Hall and at the Township Cemeteries to remove brush from the storm.
Garber moved to allow Lee Ash to hire a chipper service to remove brush
from the Township properties at a cost not to exceed $1,500.00. Second
by Forsythe. All board members in favor. Motion carried.
Forsythe moved to adjourn. Second by L. Ash. Motion carried.
