The Bennington Township regular board meeting
was called to order by Supervisor Lee Ash on July
76, 2009, 7:00pm,
at the Bennington Township Hall.
Present: Cindy Garber, Lee Ash, Nancy Zdunic, Donna Ash.
Jim Forsythe, not present
D. Ash moved to approve the agenda with additions of Fireworks and Budget. Second by Zdunic. Motion carried.
Garber moved to approve the minutes for June 1, 2009 regular board meeting as printed. Second by L. Ash. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
L. Ash moved to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented. Second by Zdunic. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Zdunic moved to pay bills as printed in the amount of $85,214.79. Second by L. Ash. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Comments From the Floor:
H. Sparks- Co Comm Update
David Lazar- Candidate for the 85th District Representative
Road Comm- Director Lonny Latunski and Drain Comm Tony Newman present to discuss the water concerns in Bennington. The Yerkes Drain could be cleaned out with a petition from the residents. N. Lynn was present and indicated that she would start a petition.
Board Reports:
Plan Comm- D. Ash- Approved the proposed revisions to the Zoning Ordinance for Campgrounds.
Roads- L. Ash- Currently the Seal Coating is being done.
Unfinished Business:
Farmers Market- The first date had six venders participate. The next date is July 13.
RESD Summer Program- The Township will not participate this year.
Burning Ordinance- Zdunic moved to amend the Bennington Township Burning Ordinance 03-02-01, Amended 10-20-2006, Section 9: Fireworks, by crossing off the “All requests for fireworks and displays of fireworks shall be subject to Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Bulletin #12 and all revisions thereto” and replacing with “All requests for fireworks and displays of fireworks shall conform to and be subject to MCL 750.243b, MCL 29.1 b-c and all revisions thereto.” Second by L. Ash. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
New Business:
Senior Project Fresh- Joe Hammontree- Serves every Township within the county, provides vouchers for payment of fruits or vegetables at Farmers Market for anyone over 60 with a limited income. Garber moved to contribute $200.00 to Senior Project Fresh per Act 29 of 1076. Second by Zdunic. Roll call vote: All board members in favor. Motion carried.Playground Chips- Zdunic moved to purchase safety wood chips for the Township Hall playground from Playground Midstates at a cost of $1,600.00. Second by Garber. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Mineral Well Brine Bill - L. Ash moved to pay the bill form Shiawassee Co Rd Comm for mineral well brine at a cost of $8,024.10. Second by Garber. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Cemetery Shrub-Henry Griffin- L. Ash moved to allow Henry Griffin to plant a shrub within Oakwood Cemetery. Second by Garber. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Mowing per Weed Ordinance- L. Ash will have the properties mowed per the Weed Ordinance as necessary.
Mowing Township Vacant Land- Zdunic moved to accept the bid from Jerry Gutting to mow the Township Vacant/Park Land, 10 acres, at a cost of $600.00. Second by Garber. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Consumers Energy- Scott Merchant- Requesting approval from the Township to sell a piece of property. The Township will send a letter referencing the Land Division Act requirements.
Twp Hall Lawn- Received two bids to finish filling in the low area of the Township Hall lawn. Gutting & Son Excavating LLC, $2,000.00. Cordier Excavating, $1,690.00. Zdunic moved to accept the bid from Cordier Excavating to finish filling the Township Hall lawn at a cost of $1,690.00 which includes 300 yards of dirt and rough grading. Second by L. Ash. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Budget Review- No changes made.
D. Ash moved to adjourn. Second by L. Ash. Motion
carried.
