The Bennington Township regular board meeting was called to order by Supervisor Lee Ash on May 5, 2008, 7:00pm at the Bennington Township Hall.
Present: Nancy Zdunic, Lee Ash, Gerald Sayles, Donna Ash.
Sayles moved to approve the agenda as printed. Second by L. Ash. Motion carried.
Zdunic moved to approve the minutes of the April 7, 2008 regular meeting as printed. Second by Sayles. Roll call vote: All board members in favor. Motion carried.
L. Ash moved to approve the minutes of the April 23, 2008 special meeting as printed. Second by Sayles. Roll call vote: All board members in favor.
Sayles moved to approve the Treasurers' report as presented. Second by L. Ash. Roll call vote: All board members in favor. Motion carried.
Zdunic moved to pay bills as presented in the amount of $23,021.01. Second by Sayles. Roll call vote: All board members in favor. Motion carried.
Comments from the floor:
H. Sparks- Co. Comm. Update.
J. Forsythe- Presented his letter of interest for the open Trustee board position.
K. Canfield- Wanted to build a garage on property and was advised to go to County Zoning. Wanted to know when Brewer Rd. would be paved. Was advised that it was listed as a tentative road project for this year.
Board Reports:
Owosso Twp Fire- Report on file. 4 fire runs in Benn Twp in April 2008.
Library- F. Gregory- Report on file.
Plan Comm- D. Ash- Reviewed the Land Use Plan and determined that no changes needed to be made at this time. Approved one land division. Zdunic moved to concur with the Planning Commission and approve one land division for Dorothy Benham on parent parcels #010-30-300-001-03 and #010-30-100-002 as presented. Second by Sayles. Roll call vote: All board members in favor. Motion carried.
Roads- L. Ash- Brush spraying bids came in at $235/mile. Ruess Rd should start work about June 1. Brewer Rd tile problem was checked by L. Ash, Sayles, and Co. Rd Comm and determined that fixing of the tile was not needed. Sayles moved to asphalt Brewer Rd from Morrice Rd to Delaney Rd at a contract cost of $126,985.00. Second by Zdunic. Roll call vote: All board members in favor. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:
Outdoor Furnace Ordinance- Will check into the current County requirements, and review the sample ordinance.
Wood Fence around Dumpster- Waste Management stated that there was no additional cost to have a driver open a gate to the empty the dumpster. Will check on some prices.
Storage Cabinets- No new information at this time.
Veterans Healthcare Resolution- Twp Board is unable to support this resolution at this time with the information provided.
Driveway off Brewer Rd to Twp Hall- Will look into placement but cannot be done until the ground is level.
Cemetery Signs- L. Ash moved to accept the quote from Edwards Sign to purchase a Cemetery sign for each cemetery, Exhibit C sign at $221/sign, with post, vinyl sleeves and ball top at 32.20/sign, with installation of signs at $55/hr. Second by Sayles. Roll call vote: All board members in favor. Motion carried.
New Business:
Mileage Reimbursement- Check with MTA on current amount.
Morrice Community Senior Center- Sent letter requesting the Township Board attend a meeting on June 12 regarding the lack of funding to the Senior Center from the Shiawassee County Council on Aging.
Department of Treasury- Sent results from a study conducted by the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research to evaluate local government fiscal indicators. The study was conducted for fiscal year 2006 and the township was given a low aggregate score which reflects fiscal neutrality.
Sayles moved to adjourn. Second by L. Ash. Motion carried.
