The Bennington Township regular board meeting was called to order by Clerk Donna Ash on March 6, 2006, 7:00pm at the Bennington Township Hall.
Present: Ray Wirth, Nancy Zdunic, Gerald Sayles, Donna Ash.
Lee Ash not present.
Zdunic moved to appoint Donna Ash as meeting moderator in the absence of Supervisor Lee Ash. Second by Sayles. Motion carried.
Wirth moved to accept the agenda as printed. Second by Sayles. Motion carried.
Zdunic moved to approve the minutes for the February 6, 2006 regular board meeting with the deletion of the third paragraph of the salary resolution. Second by Sayles. Motion carried.
Sayles moved to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented. Second by Wirth. Motion carried.
Sayles moved to pay bills in the amount of $13,253.03 as presented. Second by Zdunic. Roll call vote: All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Shiawassee County Road Commission - Lonny Latunski, Steve Zemcik, Mike Constine, and Brent Friess - presentation of 2006 - 2007 road improvement projects for the township.
Sheriffs Dept.- Deputy C. Carson- Report on file.
COMMENTS FROM THE FLOOR:

BOARD REPORTS:
SSESA- G. Hubbard- 11 calls- 2 fire, 3MFR, 6 Ambulance. Checking into the feasibility of having a full time chief position. Working on a rendezvous policy with LSW.
Library- F. Gregory- Report on file.
Plan Comm- D. Ash- Chairman Wuttke has resigned the chair position. One land division approved. Sayles moved to concur with the Planning Commission and approve one land division for Richard Hafner, parent parcel #78-010-15-400-001. Second by Zdunic. Motion carried. Next meeting 3-23-06.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Cemetery Issue- Sent Mr. Salander a certified letter, which was received as his address. No response as of this time. Will be turned over to the Township attorney after 30 days.
2006 - 2007 Meeting dates reviewed and will be presented at the annual meeting.
Township Publications- Last meeting it was questions why the minutes were not published in the Argus Press. It costs less to publish in the Sunday Independent. According to Publication of Notices in Newspapers, Act 247 of 1963, the Sunday Independent meets all of the criteria for the Township to use as the publication newspaper.
NEW BUSINESS:
Lawn Mower- D&G- Received a bid from D&G to trade in the Township lawn mower for a new one. Hold bid for next regular meeting.
Shia Co Community Development- Shia Co has started to send out a Code Enforcement Response listing to the Townships.
SafetyComm Solutions Meeting- No board members interested in going.
Pension Changes- Met with Burnham & Flower pension representative to discuss pensions and some changes that the Township would like to have acted upon. Burnham & Flower is working on the necessary resolutions for these changes which the Township will then act upon.
Drain Assessments- D. Ash moved to ask for the assistance of Representative Richard Ball to request the Attorney General’s opinion of the time limitation of assessing county drain work to the property owners. Second by Zdunic. Motion carried.
Year End Meeting- Sayles moved to have a Special Meeting on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 1:30pm. Agenda items will include Year End Bills, Year End Budget, 2006-2007 Preliminary Budget and 2006-2007 Road Improvement Projects. Second by Zdunic. Motion carried.
John Hurd- Asked why the Township did not have minutes available on a web site. Currently the Township does not have internet access.
Zdunic moved to adjourn. Second by Sayles. Motion carried.
