The Saginaw-Shiawassee
Habitat for Humanity® organization has six
major initiatives that could benefit residents of Bennington Township:

Critical Home
Repair -
Highlights: Repair of existing home, up to $7,500
in repairs, resident must stay in the home for 5 years

Brush with
Kindness -
Highlights: Up to $1,000 for painting of existing
home, minor exterior repair and/or yard cleanup

Rural Seniors -
Highlights: Eligible to low-income seniors in a
rural community

Neighborhood Impact Program (NIP) -
Up to $7500 per qualifying household for critical repairs
such as windows, doors, roof, exterior doors, ramps,
furnace/ac, water heater or insulation. All those
listed on the title must live in the house. Additional
people not listed on the title may live in the house. The
title needs to have been in place longer than 18 months.
Their household income must fall within 80% of the Area
Median Income for the county as shown in the chart below*.
They must provide all income information in order to qualify
for the grant. The grant is forgivable, meaning
nothing is owed, as long as the family agrees to continue to
live in their house for the next 5 years. Basically, the
grantor does not want to fix a house to resell it.
This grant is provided by The Federal Home Loan Bank of
Indianapolis through a partnership with Frankenmuth Credit
Union.

Accessibility Modifications Program (AMP) -
This program gives up to $15,000 for handicap accessibility
issues in a house such as replacing tubs with no step or
low-step showers, taller toilets, ramps, widening doors,
etc. Up to 25% of the grant can be used for deferred
maintenance issues such as the items listed in the
Neighborhood Impact Program.
All those listed on the title must live in the
house. Additional people not listed on the title may
live in the house. The title needs to have been in
place longer than 18 months. Their household income

county as shown below* for the household size. They

USDA 504 grant program -
This program gives up to $7,500 per qualifying senior
household (defined as 62 years old and older) who live in a
rural area. They are able to replace windows, doors,
roof, exterior doors, ramps, furnace/ac, water heater or
insulation, floors, porches and other things as long as it
is a code and/or safety hazard/issue in the house.
This program is run by the United States Department of
Agriculture. The income limits per household size is
available below*.

* Note: These
income limits will change as soon as HUD publishes its Income Limits for
2016. NIP and AMP Programs will be held to the 2016 Income Limits.
These new limits should be available in March 2016 through
www.hud.gov.
The USDA office will publish their Income Limits for their programs as
well. The USDA Income Limits are also not available at this point. To qualify for a program,
an application must be completed and eligibility requirements must be
met.
